Interesting that Mearsheiimer, like Mark, sees the war continuing for many years with Russia largely victorious but western Ukraine remaining a significant problem.
The Democrats and RINOs have been trying to cover up the Nazi element in Ukraine and the bipartisan support it has in the US government and media. The only opposition to the war comes from a handful of populist Republicans and three presidential candidates (Kennedy, Trump, Ramaswamy). A few years ago Congress actually acknowledged the Nazi presence in Ukraine and voted not to send them weapons, but since the war started, it has shamefully covered for the 600lb elephant in the room. And the party of identity politics loses no time in using the war for its own cynical domestic agenda: while Democrats point fingers at conservatives and call them "fascists," they themselves keep shoveling billions in aid to actual Nazis. You can't make this stuff up.
NATO IS in the conflict fighting Russia directly. NATO techs man weapon systems. Funny thing about those Patriot Complexes destroyed. An Airforce Base in central USA reported 17 dead recently but give no explanation. Of course not! They died in Ukraine manning the Patriots.

EU cannot refuse 18 year-old men coming 4000 km from Africa, all incidentally bypassing Saudi and other places with money, b/c they're fleeing for their lives.
But they will show no problems with repatriating UA men who are being sent to an almost certain death.

I don't blame the young men who fled Ukraine, at least the ones who did not approve of the Poroshenko and Zelenski regimes shelling of Donbas and suppressing Russian language and culture among Russophone Ukrainians. Many of these would not have had the option of fleeing to Russia and so fled west instead.
If someone is forced into a situation in which obedience (following orders) is likely to result in death, it should be no surprise that they will look for options to survive. They will not work as cannon fodder if they are not armed, and those guns can point in any direction.
