I agree with you. What I DO see is local AC companies, plumbers, roofers, handymen, things like that. I remember when made in America cars became crap, really crap. They used to be good. MY car is good. I had a made in Germany 74 or 75 VW Rabbit. It was excellent. It got wrecked :( So I got a 78 made in the US and the elec system kept bumming out, it was not nearly as good as the one made in Germany. It was around then that American cars were crap. Japanese cars were GOOD tho, all the mechanics knew it. Now my Dodge Spirit is wonderful, I love my car. I have no idea where it was made.
I know how the US lost manufacturing. I was born 1950. I have seen a LOT and it's very sad. Imo vocational education is the way to go. Learn a skill that can't be taken out of the US. College is bs unless it is STEM. I remember ALL the factories here back then. ALL the jobs here. Mid 70s also cost of living did not keep up with wages earned. It never came back either. Just too sad.
Yes, economy is quite bad. Not so bad for us, our elec co lowered the price!
I know. And Unions mean nothing if companies can pick up and leave, which so many did. I got very very sad writing what I wrote, like GRIEVING. It actually hurt, like grief. Companies won't do anything if there are no profits, makes sense. And well, if they make profits with the wages paid these days for such work, who can afford to buy cars like people did in the past when times were good. Again, grief.
Unlike the other poster here, I don't live life based on hope. My feet are firmly on the ground. I am a realist. Grief. Sure, there are the many "if onlys" but I don't have a time machine. BIGGEST eg: NO FOREIGN ENTANGLEMENTS. If only US kept to that. Another eg: NO, do not buy cheaper English steel. We make our own. If only we kept to that.
What is so good where I am with immigrants making stores, little stores, like when I was a kid. I am glad I live where I live. They do a good business because they know what to sell and what people want.
Now, if someone would just make the old fashioned car and call it "old fashioned" and keep it affordable. People would buy. I heard that Russia made some kind of austere car and the west was making fun of it. I tried to find out if I could get one. Can't :(
