The other problems you cite like weight, fuel consumption and a loader make for a crappy piece of equipment even with the Chobham Armor.
I saw a video in the 1980's of a small Soviet tank in a demonstration. It was fast, could shoot on the move and accurately hit its targets. It had an autoloader too. It was very impressive and the coolest tank ever saw.
