Have a word with Nima Please. He used to do 35 min tightly edited spots, 3 or 4 a week. they were brilliant and mostly allowed specialists to talk on things no one else would talk about. Unmissable.
Now he does 2 hour spots were everyone is asked the same questions. No preparation, no editing, he is just wasting everyone's time. Victim of his own success I know, but he doesn't get anything like the views he used to. 2 hours a week has become 20 hours a week.
Mmmm, yes they are a lot looser now in terms of editing. Often he does not even bother prefixing with his intro graphic and the cool one-note tone. I wonder whether he works alone? He should get a helper maybe?
But there's nothing wrong with asking the same questions. Judge Nap does it all the time. And to top it off, he runs the same clips over and over again, to get each guest's take on them. That I could do without.
But no they were not all 35 minute shows. It almost sounds as if tyou are thinking of the Judge. Who for some reason keeps most shows to about 28 minutes. Even if the discussion is fascinating. Weird.
What I have always loved about DW is that Nima asks big broad questions and then lets his guest run with it. Many shows are an hour and some longer.
I thought this show was TERRIFIC. A tour de force on Mark's part.
It might be that Nima had production support that has gone. Most of his videos now show Zoom across the front which suggests something has gone missing.
On repeat questions - sure - but the Judge keeps it down to 25-35 mins always.
And while viewers can always limit the number of guests we watch, we can't control the length of the video.
I'm happy to include Mark for 30 mins once of twice a week an then exclude 3 or 4 others. Ditto Jacques Baud. And some of the others i can see the short version on the Judge. But if Mark or Jacques are being shown in 2 hour videos what are we going to do.
I mean I'm only semi-retired, I have to work 9 hours a week too.
