The Great Decoupling and World War III Have Already Started

Nouriel Roubini is a famed American academic and economist who has served as an adviser to the IMF, the World Bank, the US Federal Reserve, and the US Treasury Department.
He became infamous for predicting the 2008 US Crash and resulting global recession - and has since gained the grim appellation “Doctor Doom”.

Roubini recently gave an interview to the German magazine Der Spiegel on the subject of his new fatalist book, “MegaThreats: Ten Dangerous Trends That Imperil Our Future, And How to Survive Them.”

Doctor Doom pronounced that, “Honestly, World War III has already effectively begun, certainly in Ukraine and cyberspace.”

He also spoke of Iran and China as other US priorities that must be “dealt with”, alongside Russia.
This comes during a week when US President Joe Biden has vowed to “free Iran” and nuclear capable US strategic bombers have been deployed closer to China in Australia.

Roubini spoke of his understanding that China would seek to assert its sovereignty over US-backed & armed separatists in Taiwan, “sooner rather than later” and of the consequences that would bring for the US.
“Just imagine the impact of a Chinese attack on Taiwan, which produces 50% of all semiconductors in the world, and 80% of the high-end ones. That would be a global shock. We depend more on semiconductors today than on oil.”

In his economic crystal ball, Doctor Doom Roubini foretold said any claims of a soft landing for the economy at this point are “delusional.”
“We’re going to have a nasty recession, nasty stagflation, and another severe financial crisis. I think that’s the baseline.”

Addressing the reality of the Western war of sanctions on Russia and Iran and US efforts to force the West to decouple from China, Roubini noted that the US has now banned the export of semiconductors that have AI, supercomputing or military applications  to China, pressuring the EU and the rest of the West to follow suit. The US Hegemon is forcing the whole world to “take sides” in this looming global conflict.

“Trade, finance, technology, internet: Everything will split in two,” he predicted.

I wrote about exactly this in early March and called it “the Great Decoupling”.

I unfortunately agree with Doctor Doom. It’s not our dark future, but our unfolding present – WW3 and the Great Decoupling, assuming that is, there is someone left to separate from each other.
